Statistical Consultancy

Specialist statistical advice when the analysis has to stand up to examiners, reviewers, regulators or a board. We help you choose the right method, apply it correctly and explain what the results do and do not show.

What we offer

15 services, grouped by stage. Most projects use several of them together.

Inference and testing

  • Descriptive and inferential statistics
  • Statistical hypothesis testing
  • Non-parametric statistical methods
  • Probability modelling

Modelling

  • Regression analysis
  • Generalised linear models
  • Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and covariance (ANCOVA)
  • Mixed-effects and repeated-measures models
  • Multivariate statistical analysis
  • Time series analysis and forecasting

Design

  • Experimental design
  • Sample size and statistical power calculations

Quality and reporting

  • Model diagnostics and validation
  • Statistical interpretation and technical reporting
  • Statistical methodology review

Ways to work with us

Choose the level of involvement that suits the project. Every engagement starts with an agreed written scope.

Methodology review

An independent review of a study design, analysis plan or completed analysis, with written recommendations.

Typically days

Defined analysis project

We carry out the analysis to an agreed plan and deliver results, code and a technical report you can cite or build on.

Typically weeks

Ongoing statistical support

A named statistician available to your team or research group over a project, on an agreed schedule.

Months or longer

Problems we often help with

Typical starting points for a conversation. If your question is not here, it is still worth asking.

“How many participants do I need?”
We calculate sample size from your expected effect, variability and design, and document the assumptions so an ethics committee or funder can follow them.
“Which test or model fits my data?”
We look at how the data were collected, the outcome type and the dependence structure, then recommend an approach and explain why the obvious alternatives are less suitable.
“My measurements are repeated over time. What now?”
Repeated or clustered observations usually need mixed-effects or similar models. We set these up and check that the conclusions are not an artefact of the model choice.
“A reviewer has questioned my analysis.”
We review the methodology, re-run or extend the analysis where needed and help you draft a clear, technically sound response.

Discuss your project

Tell us what you are working on. We will reply to arrange an initial conversation and, if it is a good fit, send a written proposal with scope, method, timeline and cost.
